Harbour and history

Water transport around Anjala has been shaped by the Kymijoki River. Estates and riverside industry were linked through the same transport landscape. The first groundwood mill in Kymenlaakso was established beside the Ankkapurha rapids in 1872, after which the riverbanks were increasingly adapted to industrial use.

Culture and local stories

Local history is presented through exhibitions and events at Anjala Manor and the Ankkapurha cultural park. Mathilda Wrede is also remembered in the nearby church environment. The manor, church and industrial riverfront offer three different perspectives on the community that developed beside the water.
