Harbour and history

Eckerö’s harbour connections have linked the western coast of Åland with Sweden. Postal transport, customs work and passenger travel have played a visible role in its maritime history. Along the old postal route, crossing the sea was both everyday work and a connection with the wider world.

Culture and local stories

This history is presented at the Eckerö Post and Customs House, a preserved Empire-style setting. Exhibitions explore the postal service, customs and the building itself, alongside Åland arts and crafts. The harbour’s story therefore includes the movement of information as well as goods and people.
