Harbour and history

At Haukipudas, the Kiiminkijoki River links the inland river landscape with the coast of the Bothnian Bay. Settlement, work and transport developed beside these waters. The old church village provides a setting for local harbour history, with the importance of the river reflected in its buildings.

Culture and local stories

Haukipudas Church, completed in 1764, preserves paintings made by Mikael Toppelius during the 1770s. An old grain store has been adapted as a local museum. Together they tell the story of a river-mouth community beyond individual ship movements.
