Harbour and history

Water transport linked Houtskari’s scattered island villages. The church village of Näsby developed beside sheltered Hålax Bay. The relationship between church, village and waterfront reflects a time when many shared occasions were reached by boat.

Culture and local stories

The wooden cruciform church was built in 1703–1704. The local museum setting includes an old parish meeting house. In this preserved village, archipelago history can be read both in individual buildings and in the way the settlement opens towards the water.
