Harbour and history

Iisalmi’s harbour belongs to the Upper Savo lake routes. Situated beside Porovesi, it connects the town with a wider network of inland waters. Lakes and rivers carried people and goods through a region whose landscape is strongly defined by water.

Culture and local stories

The Juhani Aho Museum at Mansikkaniemi presents the writer’s childhood home. Aho lived in the parsonage from 1865 to 1876. The nearby historic landscape of Koljonvirta adds another dimension, placing literary memory within the broader history of the Iisalmi area.
