Harbour and history

Isnäs’s harbour setting is linked to the sawmill industry on the Pernaja coast. Timber processing and sea transport formed parts of the same production chain. In 1952, the Askolin company concentrated its sawmilling at Isnäs, illustrating the site’s role in regional industry.

Culture and local stories

The local story can be considered alongside the nearby Forsby ironworks. Coastal workplaces, homes and transport routes were interconnected. This industrial landscape therefore records more than manufacturing: it also provides a setting for the communities whose everyday lives grew around the processing and shipment of timber.
