Kilpilahti's industrial harbour history

Shipping at Kilpilahti is linked to the Porvoo refinery, which began operating in October 1965. Its harbour forms part of the transport chain for raw materials and refined products, reflecting the coast's industrial development.

Porvoo's older trading landscape

Elsewhere in the region, Old Porvoo preserves a medieval street pattern, a church and riverside warehouses. Much of its wooden building stock dates from 1760–1820, recalling the lives of merchants and craftspeople.
