Harbour and history

Kristiinankaupunki’s maritime history remains visible in the old town’s relationship with the waterfront. A grid plan based on the 1651 layout still underlies its wooden-house blocks. Sea trade shaped the town, with the harbour forming part of the historic whole.

Culture and local stories

Carlsro Villa was built for shipowner Carl Alfred Carlström in 1896. Preserved as a museum, it recalls prosperous merchant life. Together, the old town and the villa show how maritime trade was connected both with everyday housing and with the culture of summer residences.
