Harbour and history

Långnäs ferry harbour opened in Lumparland in 1965. Its position close to the passing fairway suited traffic between Finland and Sweden. A new passenger harbour, completed in 1999, established the basis of its later development.

Culture and local stories

The 1965 terminal was designed by Bengt Lundsten. The glass-and-steel building brought modern architecture to the island waterfront, although it was later demolished. Lumparland’s local history preserves its story as part of the changing relationship between ferry travel, architecture and connections across the archipelago.
