Harbour and history

Laitakari in Luvia served as a shared loading and shipbuilding place for surrounding villages. Wooden-ship construction and timber transport formed part of coastal livelihoods. The traditional yard’s final vessel was completed in 1919, and sawmilling began the following year.

Culture and local stories

The building of the galeas Ihana revived Laitakari’s shipbuilding heritage. The project brought traditional craft skills together with community effort. Luvia’s maritime story therefore continues not only in buildings and memories, but also through a vessel that carries the tradition under sail.
