Harbour and history

The coast of Ruotsinpyhtää, or Strömfors, forms part of the eastern Gulf of Finland harbour region. Its waterway and industrial heritage includes the Strömfors ironworks, founded by Johan Creutz in 1698.

The ironworks mistress

Virginia Christina af Forselles managed the works for 57 years. Many characteristic buildings date from her period. The surviving workshops and homes also recall the craftspeople and families whose daily lives revolved around water and work.
