Harbour and history

The harbour region of Salo grew around trade routes linking rivers and a sea inlet. The Salo River and Halikonjoki area was a trading place in medieval times; railways later complemented its water connections.

Salo’s Veturitalli illustrates a new role for transport heritage as an art museum. The station district and the old market town’s wooden houses bring industry, travel and culture together within one townscape.
