Strömma's industrial waterway

Strömma Canal was built in the 1840s for Teijo ironworks' ore and limestone shipments. It shortened the journey around Kimitoön and was enlarged in the 1890s.

Layers of canal heritage

A new canal was built west of the original in 1967–1968. Its lifting bridge, together with the older canal keeper's house and pilot station, illustrates changing requirements for water transport.
