Harbour and history

Uimaharju’s harbour landscape is associated with the forest industry beside the Pielisjoki waterway. Enocell pulp mill began operating in 1967, and the area also has a sawmill. Moving and processing timber shaped the industrial setting.

Culture and local stories

Timber floating and tar burning belong to the cultural memory of the Eno district. Logging films were also shot at Pamilokoski on the Ala-Koitajoki River. Forest and water therefore meet in Uimaharju’s story both through working life and through landscapes preserved in Finnish cinema.
