Harbour and history
The Palosaari area preserves part of Vaasa’s older harbour and shipyard history. Shipping, shipbuilding and industry began to shape the district in the late eighteenth century. Maritime needs connected the shores with the town’s commerce and production.
Culture and local stories
The red-brick cotton mill was built in 1859 to designs by Carl Axel Setterberg. Its industrial setting and the older harbour areas preserve the architecture of a working city. Through them, Vaasa can also be understood as a place of labour, craft and connections across the sea.
