Harbour and history

Velkua’s harbour places belong to the sheltered waterways of the archipelago. On the church island of Palva, the relationship between waterfront and village is central to the landscape. The view from the harbour towards the church recalls a community reached across the water.

Culture and local stories

The wooden Saint Henry’s Church and its island setting form a valued historic environment. Alongside the architecture, the landscape preserves the importance of sea travel in everyday connections. Velkua’s village history can therefore be read from both land and water.
